John I Murphy
John Murphy has more than 30 years of experience designing and building custom cabinetry and furniture in New England. With quality craftsmanship and a trained eye for the little details that help make your space perfect, you'll love your custom-designed furnishings for years to come. I saw a bathroom vanity that I really liked in a popular home furnishings catalog, but I wanted a cabinet of better quality as well as a size that would be custom made for the space in my bathroom.

John made a very similar one to the one I saw, and I was able to customize the storage spaces in it and pick out a specific wood and finish.

My husband and I furnished our home with many antiques and shaker-style pieces.
When we bought a large flat screen television to mount on the wall in our family room, I wanted a piece of furniture to stand underneath that could house the rest of our electronics but also fit in with my other period pieces.
Built-in cabinetry can add extra storage space, display your favorite collectibles or china, or enhance a room's dcor.
The door to our home opens right into the family room, and I wanted a way to separate the space without blocking off the entire room.
John built a half-wall that not only made the entrance feel like more a foyer, but also functioned as a storage and display area.
He designed it to match the existing darker floor inlay exactly, so the unit looks like it has always been there.
Got a room in your home that needs to be revamped?
Whether it's broken-down furniture, damaged cabinets, ugly built-ins or a piece that just doesn't match the rest of your home furnishings, a little upgrade can go a long way.
This amazing transformation was done for less than $6,000.
This price included removal of the old cabinets, new cabinet manufacture, including hardware and wood-edge countertops with full backsplash and installation of the new cabinets.
Before the addition of a new room in this home, the cabinets ended at a wall, which was next to the unfinished end of the cabinets, to the left of the photo.
It's the little details that truly make the difference between a custom kitchen and store-bought, cookie-cutter cabinets.

John has built kitchens for me in two houses, but really, he's done three complete transformations.
In my family's old home, he built cabinets for half of our kitchen in 1993, then came back in 1998 and matched his earlier work exactly.
Stores change their inventory every so often, so if we had used store-bought cabinetry during our 1993 remodel, we never would have been able to match it five years later.
