Bath In Wood Of Maine
Welcome to Bath in Wood, where we create luxury bathtubs from fine hardwoods, drawing on European and Asian traditions of craftsmanship. Our designs are inspired by the complexity and tactile luxury of European antiques as well as the extraordinarily refined simplicity of Japanese Sukiya architecture. We build our wooden bathtubs by hand, to order, in our Swans Island, Maine, workshop.

Because each tub is individually crafted, we can adapt our wooden bathtubs to meet the preferences of our customers and the architectural demands of their homes. Fine Hardwoods really are the perfect material for building bathtubs along with matching backsplashes, wall panels, shower surrounds and bathroom sinks. Hardwoods are naturally warm, silky smooth, deeply satisfying and endlessly varied.

Our DeepSeal Finish means no oils, no special care, just normal non-abrasive cleaning, even in the challenging environment of the hospitality industry. We build only from solid hardwoods that are DeepSealed to be easy to own and maintain; we build to last.
Services
Since we began, our tubs have always been custom built and we are committed to continue offering all the benefits that custom design provides.
So here it is.
We call it Sukiya in honor of the Japanese architectural form that celebrates refined simplicity and the beauty of natural materials.
The Sukiya tub comes in two standard sizes; 60" with an angled backrest for one person and 67" with two angled backrests, for double occupancy.
It is offered in a choice of two wood species, African Mahogany or African Teak.
Bath in Wood has shipped custom wooden bathtubs to Hawaii, Iowa, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine and beyond.
Here is a sampling of our work.
Made of 2-inch-thick Khaya mahogany, this double tub features two back rests and a pair of 24-inch bench seats that slot onto the top edge of the tub.
Made of Burma Teak with DeepSeal Finish, this tub is equipped with warm air jets in the tub bottom.
This outdoor bathtub is for two or more people, specifically designed for permanent installation outdoors.
The construction utilizes our Strong Cell technique, meaning that the Ipe cladding is able to expand and contract with changes in humidity without threatening the structural integrity of the tub.
European styling presents an artful interplay of line and color.
The use of fine hardwoods in all their variety, allows us to design bathtubs in the same spirit as fine furniture, bringing comfort to the body and satisfaction to the eye.
Flowing shapes, contrasts of line, form and color, combine to offer a rich palette of creative opportunities.
This means that your bathtub becomes a unique component of your home, valued and enjoyed as a possession of excellence.
Whatever custom tub design you, your architect or your interior designer can dream, we can build it.
We make Ofuro from 2-inch-thick hardwood and the tub rests on a pair of solid 4-inch bearers, which give the impression that the tub floats above the floor, removing the appearance of great weight that the plain rectangle would otherwise have.
The shape also lends itself to our signature contrast treatment in which two distinctive species of wood are incorporated into the design providing exciting creative opportunities.
Whatever custom tub design you, your architect or your interior designer can dream, we can build it.
We have developed a building process for outdoor tubs using our signature hardwoods.
We call it Strong Cell Construction.
Outdoor tubs can be built of either Teak or Ipe and these woods can be left unsealed in order to weather alongside a surrounding deck.
If preferred, the wood can be DeepSealed allowing the use of soaps and bath additives.
When sealed, the tub should be protected by a cover when not in use.
Our Strong Cell technique means that the hardwood can expand and contract with changes in humidity without threatening the integrity of the tub.
